Seville is forever associated with the region's orange harvest and is the sun-drenched capital of Andalusia in the south of Spain. Also famed for its flamenco dancing -- particularly in the neighbourhood of Triana -- its key landmarks include the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza bullring and the Alcázar castle complex, with its beautiful Moorish design. Visit the city cathedral to witness its Gothic architecture and the tomb of Christoper Columbus, and see the famous Giralda minaret bell tower. Visitors love the traditional parades and colour of the Spanish holy week Semana Santa the April Fair or Feria de Abril and Los Toros bullfighting season.
The city is filled with colour, religious iconography, a seemingly endless succession of traditional festivals and the food is legendary. Try local delicacies such as the Secreto Ibérico, possibly the most mouth-melting pork cut there is, and the vegetarian dish of Espinacas Con Garbanzos with chickpeas and spinach. Don't forget to taste some Torrijas with ice-cream in one of the many local pastry shops.
You'll be spoilt for choice in Seville with the mix of ancient buildings, local festivals, music and dance celebrations, cultural events, museums and sporting fixtures in this vibrant, welcoming part of Spain. Many of the main attractions are within the city itself and the main accommodations; it is well worth travelling by foot as far as possible to experience the atmosphere first hand.
