Cheap Flights To Gdansk

Located along the Baltic Coast and Poland's principal seaport, Gdansk is a charming city of contrasts and entices visitors from all over the world. Records suggest the oldest settlements date back to 980 A.D when the region was ruled by Mieszko I of Poland. The region's history chronicles a long and troubled heritage with periods of Prussian and German occupation. Today, this fine city stands as a proud metropolis with a rich and diverse culture, hailed for its contribution to the arts, education, science and music. The city has an oceanic climate with cold, damp winters and warm, temperate summers.

The region's architecture is truly stunning, featuring an eclectic mix of Medieval and Dutch Renaissance influences, particularly in the Old Town, although some of the most impressive buildings are actually reconstructions erected after World War Two. In addition to the fine architecture, lovers of history will be fascinated by the many historical sites and museums and those who appreciate art will find a plethora of galleries to keep them entertained. Plan your trip in July to coincide with Gdansk Musical Stage to see a selection of open air concerts hosted at Oliwa Gate every Saturday and Sunday evening throughout the month.

Things To Do

This impressive city features a host of interesting attractions and activities for people of all interests. Dine in one of the many fabulous restaurants or seek out one of the many historical sites.

  • Indulge In Traditional Polish Food

Established in 1918, Kubicki is the oldest restaurant in the city. The chef offers a menu of authentic and traditional dishes, including herring with capers and pickled cucumbers, pork served with red cabbage and potatoes followed by some truly sumptuous desserts.

  • For The History Lovers

Explore the Archaeological Museum in Gdansk. This fine exhibition features a cellar which was formerly a 13th-century Dominican Monastery. The remainder of the museum exhibits photographs and artwork from the 17th and 18th Century.

  • Visit The Markets

Housed in a disused 19th-century train station, the Market Hall boasts a fine selection of stalls and vendors. The upper floor contains clothing, souvenirs and jewellery, while the basement is packed with food vendors offering traditional fares such as kabanosy sausages or Wedel chocolate.

Calendar Of Events

Gdansk comes alive, particularly during the summer months, when a host of festivals entice both tourists and the local community. Music, comedy, food and culture are celebrated the Polish way and the events offer a memorable experience for all who attend.
