Caticlan Overview

Caticlan is a small town with an airport that serves the island of Boracay, one of the Philippines' top tourist destinations. Caticlan has a port in addition to its airport, providing access to Boracay Island, which is best known for its white and sandy beaches. Hotels, shops and restaurants are the other main attractions along with outdoor activities and romantic sailboats for visitors to go on excursions. The island is a paradise for entertainment, with live music and even fire dancers at parties that go on well into the night. Boracay island is also benefiting from new developments such as the Newcoast development, providing more places for tourists to stay. Authenticity still exists on the island and travellers can go northwards to Diniwid Beach for a peaceful break. To the east lies Bulabog Beach, where water sports enthusiasts hang out and there's a friendly community spirit. Other top attractions include a bat cave, numerous places for kiteboarding and skimboarding, as well as the tranquil Bakhawan Mangrove Forest on the mainland. In terms of festivals, there's Boracay International Funboard Cup for windsurfing, the International Beach Volleyball Tournament in May and the Ati-atihan Festival in January.

The island or Boracay has numerous white sandy beaches including White Beach with its crystal-blue water, Yapak Beach, which is more secluded, and Diniwid Beach that's part of a small cove with a few hotels and boats.

D' Talipapa Market lies between Boracay Main Road and White Beach and is a real experience where visitors can buy fresh or even live seafood, chat and bargain with stall holders and enjoy the nearby places to eat such as Bella Bistro.

Calander of Events

Visitors can enjoy a variety of festivals and events all year around in Caticlan, most taking place during the high season when it's party time!

• The Ati-atihan Festival. On the second Sunday in January, there's the annual celebration to honour Santo Niño, where locals paint themselves, parade, dance and play music. The festival takes place along White Beach.

• The Boracay International Funboard Cup. This windsurfing tournament has been taking place since 1989 and represents one leg of the South East Asia Funboard Cup. It takes place in the sea off Bulabog on Boracay Island's eastern side.

• The International Beach Volleyball Tournament. During the first or second weekends in May, Boracay hosts the International Beach Volleyball Tournament, which is attended by around 75 teams from numerous universities and colleges from all around the Philippines.
