Cheap Flights To Kingston

Kingston, the cosmopolitan capital city of Jamaica, is truly one-of-a-kind. A vibrant mix of thriving commerce and industry, mixed with areas of exotic unspoilt jungle, it is the ideal destination for those who enjoy variety on their holidays or wish to mix business and pleasure.

Founded in 1692, the city was originally inhabited by survivors of the earthquake that destroyed Port Royal. As well as being the island's commercial centre, the city has a wide range of leisure attractions including buzzing nightlife venues, restaurants and museums. One of the most popular attractions in the city is the botanical gardens, the largest in all the Caribbean. Spanning 2000 acres, Hope Gardens has a huge range of indigenous plants and a range of attractions including the Lily Pond, Coconut Museum and Sunken Gardens.

Things To Do

From historic buildings to massive national parks, Kingston truly has something for everybody. One of the best ways to learn about Jamaica is to visit the capital's attractions, giving you a deeper understanding of the country's heritage and cultural identity.

  • Fort Clarence Beach

Of course, no trip to Jamaica would be complete without at least a day spent relaxing by the sea. The Fort was originally named after Englishman David Small but was renamed in honour of William Duke of Clarence, King of England between 1830 and 1837, due to the Fort's role in defending the island in the 18th century. The Beach Park is popular with families for days out and picnics and is a popular relaxation spot for locals too.

  • Devon House

Devon House is one of Kingston's most important cultural sites, the former residence of Jamaica's first black millionaire, George Stiebel. Constructed in 1891, the mansion offers visitors a trip back in time to the life of privileged members of West Indian society in Victorian times.

  • Blue John Crow Mountains National Park

Alongside its laid back lifestyle and delicious cuisine, Jamaica is famous for its natural beauty. This sprawling national park has more than 1300 types of flowering plants and is also home to the largest butterfly in the Americas- the 6-inch Giant Swallowtail. A nature enthusiast's paradise, the national park also has more than 200 species of migratory and native birds.

Calendar Of Events

With its jubilant, celebratory atmosphere, Kingston makes the perfect to enjoy festivals and cultural events ranging from music festivals to cultural celebrations.

  • Reggae Month: While other places have reggae days, Jamaica has such a love for reggae it dedicated a whole month to its celebration. Each February, the capital puts on a series of weekly concerts, awards ceremonies and lectures, perfect for indulging in your love of reggae.

  • Jamaica Festival: This vibrant festival celebrates Jamaica's independence between the end of July and start of August each year and is held alternately between Montego Bay and Kingston. Attractions include float parades and huge galas, as well as the country's favourite reggae dancing.

  • Jamaica Food and Drink Festival: At the end of October each year the capital hosts Jamaica's Food and Drink Festival, celebrating the country's finest foods with live entertainment and cooking displays.
