Curacao is one of the three ABC islands of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. It is the largest and most densely populated of the Dutch Antilles, and it has a buzzing social scene that will delight cultured, sociable travellers. In the island's capital, Willemstad, you'll find plenty of bright, colourful Dutch architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the Old Town area. Alongside the beautiful colourful architecture, there are plenty of other interesting things to do and top restaurants to dine at too. Nature lovers will enjoy a day out at the Christoffel National Park, which comprises three plantations close to the northwest tip of Curacao. Beach lovers will enjoy Blauwbaai, one of the island's best-loved beaches, which has a number of impressive dive sites and a colourful coral reef.
Thanks to the island's gorgeous weather and scenery, it's the ideal place for outdoor pursuits including biking and hiking. It's also a must-visit attraction for those that love marine life, as the aquarium is one of the world's most unique. You can also come face to face with sea creatures and hand-feed stingrays and even sharks. Offering a world class holiday experience is the island's events calendar, which includes the famous Carnaval and Kite Festival.
The largest of the Lesser Antilles islands, Curacao has plenty of attractions including colourful architecture hailing from the Dutch era, beautiful tropical beaches and a huge variety of wildlife and plant life.
The island's capital, Willemstad, makes for a fascinating day out for any visitor and will particularly be a hit with those that love architecture. The capital is like a mini, more tropical version of Amsterdam, reflecting the Dutch colonial heritage of the island. As the town is compact, you can easily explore it in a few hours for a pleasant day.
Daaiboo Beach is famous for its beautiful tropical beaches, which gives you an idea of how pristine this beach must be. While many of the island's other beaches are so popular they get overcrowded, Daaiboo is relatively quiet with white sands and clear blue waters -- it is the best place to get some peace and quiet.
The island's best diving spot is Mushroom Forest, which is brimming over with marine life including giant mushroom grottoes on the ocean floor, making it an essential experience for divers of all levels of ability.
Curacao's striking natural beauty and culturally diverse makeup make it the ideal setting for popular annual events and festivals including film festivals and the world-famous Carnaval.
International Kite Festival: Thanks to its wonderful weather and tropical scenery, the island makes a great venue for kiting. The International Kite Festival takes place each February and features kites of weird and wonderful designs as well as kite-making and flying workshops for beginners.
Salsa Tour: Each August, the island hosts a week-long Salsa Tour that draws in some of the biggest names in the business alongside snorkelling and scuba diving events and horseback rides.
Carnaval: Carnaval is the key event in the island's festival calendar and goes on throughout January each year. The festival features parades, parties and live music that celebrates the wonderful diversity of the island's cultures including Portuguese, African and Jewish.
