Cheap Flights To Shenzhen

One of the wealthiest cities in China and located north of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is a vibrant, modern metropolis and home to almost eighteen million inhabitants. The city's skyline is dominated by some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world and the region is considered to be one of southern China's major financial centres. The city features a humid subtropical climate, with long humid summers tempered by rainfall and mild, dry winters.

The earliest archaeological finds date back to 5000 B.C. and consist of shards from a historical site in Dapeng Bay. The area has been ruled by several dynastic families including the Southern Song, Ming and Han. Today, this spirited city is visited by thousands of tourists each year, not least because of its array of interesting attractions and a plethora of activities for people of all age groups and interests. Visit the Happy Valley Shenzhen: a sprawling theme park spanning 86 acres. The park is themed in the Mayan style and contains 100's of various rollercoasters, rides and other attractions. The city is also home to an abundance of festivals and annual events. Plan your trip to coincide with the Dragon Boat Race Festival in June. As the name suggests, the event features exciting dragon boat racing along the Longgang River and the festival is free of charge.

Things To Do

There is absolutely no shortage of things to do in Shenzhen. From enjoying the white knuckle rides in the theme parks to exploring some of the many historical sites, Shenzhen has it all.

  • For a family day out

Take the family to the sprawling Happy Valley Shenzhen. The architecture and rides have been constructed in the Mayan style and the park spans more than 80 acres. Rollercoasters, ghost rides, bouncy castles and a children's play area are just some of the activities on offer.

  • For the foodies

Dine in luxurious surroundings at the high-end 1881 at Grand Hyatt Hotel. The restaurant specialises in Northern Chinese cuisine and delicacies include wood-fired Beijing duck and kong bao style shrimp.

  • For the history lovers

Tien Hou Temple, Chiwan, was built during the Song Dynasty. The beautifully decorated temple is still used by devotees but also houses a museum exhibiting artefacts and artwork from the period.
