Cheap Flights to Salzburg

The fourth-largest city in Austria and home to more than 150,000 inhabitants, Salzburg is flanked by the majestic Alps and epitomises the glory of this picturesque region. Official records indicate that the city dates back to the Neolithic Age, but historians believe that the first settlements occurred circa the 5th Century B.C. and was inhabited by the Celts. The Roman Empire, however, merged the settlements into one city around 15 B.C. and the area became of great significance to its new rulers when it was elevated to the status of a Roman municipal.

Today, this fine city boasts an array of impressive attractions for visitors and has become a much sought-after destination for culture and history lovers. This thriving and historic city is also hailed for its breath-taking views, opera and fine cuisine. The area is also in close proximity to a range of swimming lakes offering clean, safe waters and iconic scenery. Perhaps better known as the city where the famous musical film the Sound of Music was filmed, Salzburg is also renowned for its festivals which is why it has been dubbed Festival City. The city's Summertime Festival spans the summer months, with opera, classical music and children's festivals too. Many of the tickets are free of charge and the majority of events are open air.
