How Hotel Groups Ramp Up New Hygiene Protocols Amid COVID-19
With regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, hotel groups around the world have announced new hygiene protocols to assure the safety and wellbeing of future guests for when it is safe to travel again.

1.Hilton
To provide future guests with a peace of mind and reassurance for when they stay at any Hilton’s properties, Hilton is expected to roll out a CleanStay Initiative in June 2020. This initiative is a collaboration with Reckitt Benckiser Group plc, the producer of Lysol and Dettol, plus consulting with Mayo Clinic to elevate all cleaning and disinfection protocols from check-in to check-out.

To add an additional measure of reassuring future guests, a room seal would be placed on doors to make it known that the room has not been accessed since being thoroughly cleaned.

Explore New Disinfection Technologies
The hotel group is exploring the addition of new technologies, such as electrostatic sprayers which utilize an electrostatically charged disinfection mist as well as ultraviolet light to sterilize objects and surfaces.

2.Hyatt
To further strengthen the operational guidance and resources around their staff and guest safety, and peace of mind, Hyatt has announced a multi-layered Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment which builds on the hotel group existing protocols and includes an accreditation procedure by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council, a division of ISSA, at all Hyatt hotels around the world.
Hotel-Level Sanitization Specialists
As a part of Hyatt’s Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment, by September 2020, every Hyatt hotel will have at least one individual onsite trained as a Hygiene Manager who will be responsible to ensure that their hotel adheres to the new operating guidelines and protocol.
Examples of new operating guidelines and protocol:
- Explore purification and sanitation device installation in an effort to ensure enhanced air quality
- Colleague certification, training and recertification process for hygiene and cleanliness

3.InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG)
To ensure that the actions that IHG are taking are thorough and appropriate, the hotel groups are in contact with global organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
An overview of the efforts taken by IHG to adhere to comprehensive health and safety procedures:
- Activation of response teams to provide around-the-clock assistance to our hotels

4.Marriott International
To promote even elevated standards of hotel cleanliness in the age of COVID-19, Marriott International has created a Global Cleanliness Council which consist of in-house and outside experts in food and water safety, hygiene and infection prevention, and hotel operations. The Council will be focusing on building the next level of standards to limit the risk and improve safety for everybody on the premises.

Besides introducing new disinfection technologies like electrostatic sprayers and testing ultraviolet-light technology on hotel items, more than 3,200 Marriott hotels are providing guest check-in, room access and ordering room service via their smartphone. Marriott’s mobile technologies will provide reassurance and distancing options for their guests.
Guest Rooms
For the guest rooms, Marriott has raised its rigours protocols to thoroughly clean all surfaces with hospital-grade disinfectants. In addition, disinfecting wipes will be placed in each room.
5.Radisson Hotel Group
