#1 Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM)
We start with an airport that we can now call Instafamous. You've probably seen those images of an airplane that flies just over the heads of beachgoers during landing. That happens at Princess Juliana International Airport at Saint Martin. See the photo below to understand why this airport is so special.
#2 King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED)
The special feature of this airport is actually a specific terminal, the Hajj terminal. The unique thing about this terminal is that you actually end up in a huge open tent after you have picked up your luggage. This space is specially equipped for people who want to make the pilgrimage to nearby Mecca. The idea is that this terminal should function as a kind of village with different markets and also a mosque.
#3 Don Mueang International Airport (DMK)
You usually play golf without headphones, right? Actually, it is advisable to use them when you plan to play golf between two runways. Because let's face it, a plane taking off while you try to make that perfect swing doesn't really help with your concentration. You can test this special golf course at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok.
#4 Changi Airport Singapore (SIN)
Those who fancy a day of entertainment in Singapore might as well spend their time at this airport. Changi Airport Singapore has all kinds of attractions to entertain its travelers. A butterfly garden with 1,000 tropical butterflies, a cinema where you can watch a movie for free if you have to wait a little longer, and a 40-foot slide are just some examples of attractions that you would not expect to find at an airport.
#5 Wellington International Airport (WLG)
Ever wanted to race against a plane? Put on your wetsuit and take your surfboard to Wellington International Airport! There is a beach next to the runway with excellent surfing!
#6 Congonhas-São Paulo Airport (CGH)
Do you like an exciting landing? Then fly to São Paulo for a special landing at Congonhas Airport. This airport is only 7 miles from the center of Sao Paulo, so there is a chance that you will fly between the skyscrapers before you land.
#7 Gibraltar International Airport (GIB)
Ever seen an airplane cross at an intersection? This is not that unusual in Gibraltar. The runway overlaps with a road in this tiny British territory. Think of it as a railroad crossing, but different...
#8 King Fahd International Airport (DMM)
Big, bigger, biggest! Number two on the list of largest airports, Denver International Airport occupies 53 square miles. King Fahd International Airport in Dammam easily beats it covering no less than 301 square miles. To help you picture it, that is even bigger than the entire country of Bahrain.
#9 Kansai International Airport (KIX)
Covering 4 square miles, this is a very impressive airport, especially because an artificial island was constructed just to build it. However, this design is not without its dangers, as last year the airport suffered from flooding caused by a tornado.
#10 Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
Some airports are busy, but here busy is an understatement. With no fewer than 107 million passengers in 2018, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was the world's busiest airport for the 21st time! Very impressive when you consider that this airport is around 3 square miles smaller than Schiphol, which had around 71 million passengers in 2018.
